Body of one missing USF doctoral student discovered

The body of Zamil Limon, a 27-year-old doctoral student from Bangladesh studying at the University of South Florida, was discovered Friday morning on the Howard Frankland Bridge in Tampa, Florida. Limon had been reported missing along with fellow USF doctoral student Nahida S. Bristy, also 27 and from Bangladesh. Both had last been seen on April 16, and a family friend's report of losing contact with them triggered official missing person investigations.
Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office announced that Limon's roommate, Hisham Saleh Abugharbieh, was arrested Friday following a domestic violence incident at their shared residence. Deputies responded to a call at approximately 9 a.m., and family members at the home were able to escape to safety. After Abugharbieh refused to surrender for about 20 minutes, a SWAT team was deployed. He ultimately emerged peacefully and was taken into custody without further incident.
Abugharbieh faces a serious list of charges, including domestic violence, simple battery, false imprisonment, tampering with evidence, failure to report a death, and unlawfully holding or moving a dead body. Chief Deputy Joseph Maurer outlined these charges at a news conference. Abugharbieh was not a current USF student but had previously been enrolled from spring 2021 through spring 2023, pursuing a bachelor of science in management.
Limon was pursuing a doctoral degree in geography, environmental science and policy and had last been seen at his Tampa residence on April 16 at 9 a.m. Bristy, who is studying chemical engineering, was last spotted that same day at 10 a.m. on the USF Tampa campus. As of the time of reporting, Bristy remains missing, and the investigation into her disappearance is actively ongoing according to law enforcement officials.
Family members of both students told NBC News that going off the grid and cutting contact was completely out of character for Limon and Bristy, both of whom have close family ties in Bangladesh and maintained regular communication with loved ones. Bristy's older brother, Zahaid Hasan Pranto, confirmed the pair had previously shared a romantic relationship but were no longer actively dating. An autopsy is being conducted to determine the official cause of Limon's death.
