Mandela Barnes, a former lieutenant governor of Wisconsin, withdrew from the Democratic primary race for governor on Thursday, less than two weeks before the August 11 election. Barnes' exit was also influenced by a Marquette Law School poll showing democratic socialist Francesca Hong leading the field by a significant margin among Democratic primary voters. Roughly one-third of voters remained undecided, but the trend was unmistakable. 'It's become very clear who our nominee is going to be,' Barnes said, effectively conceding that Hong had consolidated strong backing from the party's liberal wing.

Barnes is the third Democrat to exit the race. Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez had previously ended her campaign amid a campaign finance scandal, and former state economic development director Missy Hughes dropped out in June. Following Rodriguez's departure, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley rejoined the race with an endorsement from Governor Tony Evers. Crowley promptly appealed to Barnes' supporters, urging them to unite behind his campaign.

Governor Evers told reporters he was surprised by Barnes' withdrawal but said he respected the decision. 'He needs to do what he needs to do,' Evers remarked, adding that he assumed something significant had motivated the move. Evers reaffirmed his support for Crowley, who had collaborated with both the governor and Republican lawmakers on a bipartisan funding deal. The primary is now expected to center on Hong and Crowley.

Sony's announcement that it will stop producing physical PlayStation games in the near future has reignited debate over the value of physical game releases. Many consumers assume that buying a disc or cartridge guarantees a self-contained experience that can be played without an internet connection. However, a growing body of evidence suggests that this assumption is increasingly unreliable, as publishers ship incomplete or bug-ridden versions of games on physical media.

Their findings are striking: 27 percent of all tested physical games require some form of download to fix critical bugs or access core content. The figure rises to 34 percent for PS5 titles and an alarming 50 percent for Xbox Series X releases.

DoesItPlay's head admin, Clemens Itsel, argues that this trend reflects a deliberate neglect of physical media by larger publishers rather than any technical inevitability. The group began as a passion project Twitter account in 2019, founded by Jon Doyle, and grew into a structured community of dedicated testers. A pivotal moment came in 2021 when the group spotlighted the so-called 'CBOMB' kill-switch, a flaw threatening to render offline PS3 and PS4 consoles useless once their internal clock batteries failed.

The most commonly cited example of the problem is Cyberpunk 2077, whose initial console release was notoriously unstable. Itsel notes that the unpatched physical disc will eventually become virtually unplayable. Yet the issue is not limited to obvious disasters. During testing of the survival-action game Atomfall, a subtle but game-breaking bug caused all non-player characters in a key village to turn hostile, making a peaceful playthrough nearly impossible without a patch.

DoesItPlay has evolved from a simple spreadsheet into a publicly searchable database covering thousands of titles, each evaluated using a rigorous methodology. Itsel insists that physical games need not disappear, provided publishers commit to shipping complete products on disc. He warns, however, that without industry-wide accountability, the promise of 'plug and play' physical gaming will continue to erode, ultimately pushing more consumers toward fully digital libraries.
