Tensions between the United States and Iran escalated sharply after Washington launched 'Project Freedom,' a military initiative designed to force open the Strait of Hormuz. Two U.S.-flagged merchant vessels successfully transited the strait under military escort, with shipping giant Maersk confirming that one of its vehicle carriers passed through safely under American protection.

General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, acknowledged that Iran had attacked U.S. forces more than ten times since the ceasefire was announced. However, he maintained that the level of hostilities remained below the threshold that would trigger a resumption of full-scale combat operations. Trump, when pressed on what actions Iran would need to take to formally violate the ceasefire, gave a characteristically vague answer, saying only that Iran knew what it should and should not do.

President Trump announced Tuesday evening that Project Freedom would be paused following requests from Pakistan and other nations. He cited significant military successes during the campaign against Iran and noted that meaningful progress had been made toward a comprehensive final agreement with Iranian representatives. Trump emphasized that while the initiative was on hold, the existing blockade would remain fully in force during the negotiation period, allowing time for a complete and binding deal to be reached.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that Operation Epic Fury, the official U.S. military designation for the conflict with Iran, had concluded. Defense Secretary Hegseth told reporters that hundreds of ships from nations around the world were queuing to transit the Strait of Hormuz. He described the U.S. military's protective presence over the strait as a powerful gift to the international community, using colorful language to emphasize American dominance in securing the critical global shipping lane.

The Pokémon Company International (TPCi) has significantly expanded its Pokémon Trading Card Game vending machine network across the United States. According to data manually compiled from Pokémon.com's store locator, the network now encompasses 1,871 machines operating across 28 states. This represents a 27% increase and the addition of three new states since the last count was reported in May 2025, when the total stood at 1,473 machines across 25 states. This marks the second-largest year of growth in the program's history.

The expansion is especially remarkable given the program's historically modest scale. From 2017 through 2023, the number of machines never surpassed 65 nationwide. The dramatic surge began last year, when TPCi rapidly scaled the network from approximately 200 machines to over 1,400 in just fourteen months. However, this rapid growth has come with significant turnover. While 562 new machines were added since last summer, 207 machines were removed from their locations, meaning roughly one in seven machines from that period no longer remain at their original sites.

The removals were not concentrated at any single retail chain but were distributed proportionally across most major retailers. Geographically, however, the West Coast accounted for a disproportionate share of the losses. California, Washington, Oregon, and Arizona together represented 59% of all removed machines. Although there have been isolated reports of machines being damaged or taken down following in-store incidents, analysts caution that these anecdotal cases may simply be amplified by social media attention and do not necessarily explain the broader pattern of removals.

California emerged as the state with the highest concentration of machines, overtaking Texas with 372 units. Washington came in second with 230 and Texas third with 229. Notably, California also led the nation in both additions and removals, suggesting that TPCi is actively experimenting with optimal machine placement within the country's largest consumer market. Three new states — Wisconsin, North Carolina, and South Carolina — joined the network through previously unused retail partners, indicating that TPCi is broadening its retail distribution strategy.

Despite the program's nationwide reach, two of the most populous U.S. states on the East Coast — Florida and New York — still have no Pokémon TCG vending machines at all, a conspicuous gap in the network. The Pokémon.com locator no longer provides a full downloadable list of machines, displaying only 20 results at a time, which makes comprehensive tracking more difficult. Later this month, TPCi is expected to release card printing figures for its most recent fiscal year, which ended in February and whose results are typically announced in May.
