A 17-year-old girl from North Carolina, Sarah Lindsay Santiago, has been indicted on three counts of murder and one count of conspiracy in connection with a deadly mass shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego in May. Prosecutors allege she played a critical supporting role in the attack despite being hundreds of miles away, working in coordination with the two teenage gunmen who carried out the assault. She will be tried as an adult given the terrorism-related nature of the charges.

According to District Attorney Jim O'Neill, Santiago helped the shooters by recording and disseminating a livestream of the attack in real time. She also allegedly sent them the hate-filled patches they wore during the assault and published their manifesto online afterward. Investigators from multiple agencies uncovered this evidence, leading to her arrest the week before the grand jury formally indicted her. The attack took place on May 18, when two teenage gunmen dressed in camouflage opened fire outside the mosque in San Diego's Clairemont neighborhood, killing three people: security guard Amin Abdullah, mosque caretaker Mansour Kaziha, and neighbor Nadir Awad. Abdullah, a father of eight, managed to draw his weapon and wound one of the shooters before being killed, an act of heroism that likely prevented the gunmen from advancing on an adjacent Islamic school where 140 children were sheltering in place.

Prosecutors revealed that the shooters had planned a far more extensive campaign of violence. Following the mosque attack, they intended to target the Kehilat Ariel Messianic Synagogue, located just 1.5 miles away, and then proceed to attack Black students at a local high school. Instead, the two gunmen turned their weapons on themselves in a nearby car. O'Neill stated that the FBI believes this was the first ideologically motivated attack of its kind in approximately one hundred years.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Reid Davis emphasized that Santiago had multiple opportunities to alert authorities before the shooting occurred, and that the law requires individuals with credible knowledge of a planned violent act to come forward. Her failure to do so, he said, must carry legal consequences. District Attorney O'Neill also urged parents to closely monitor their children's online activities, warning of a dangerous underground subculture of hatred that radicalized the individuals involved in this attack.

By approximately 7 p.m. CT, the company said a 'gradual recovery to mail flow' was underway, with engineers restarting targeted sections of the affected infrastructure to aid the restoration of dependent services. However, certain areas of the infrastructure were not accepting the re-applied authentication components as readily as expected, slowing the full recovery.

By 9:15 p.m. CT, Microsoft reported that email delivery was gradually coming back online, though it warned users that the search functionality across affected services was still experiencing significant issues. The company noted it was closely monitoring the health of the service environment and working to identify whether additional interventions would be needed to expedite a complete recovery. Users were advised to expect some residual disruption to downstream services linked to the affected infrastructure.

By 11:00 p.m. CT, Microsoft announced that mailbox connectivity had returned to normal for the majority of users, though engineers continued working to restore the search feature. The company also cautioned that it might take additional time for backlogged mail queues to clear, given the large volume of messages that had accumulated during the outage. The incident highlighted the vulnerability of cloud-based productivity platforms to internal configuration errors and the cascading effects such errors can cause.
