Terms of service

By creating an account or making a purchase on kotomori, you agree to these Terms. They form a binding contract between you and Daichi (sole proprietor, Japan), the operator of kotomori ("we", "us").

You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age in your country if higher, to create an account. If you are under 18, your parent or legal guardian must consent.

You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure and for all activity that happens under your account.

You agree not to: use kotomori for any illegal purpose; harass, threaten, or impersonate others; spam, scrape, or abuse the service; reverse-engineer paid features; upload content that infringes copyright; circumvent technical protections; or post content that is hateful, sexual, or harmful to minors.

We may suspend or terminate accounts when violations are confirmed.

You retain ownership of the drawings, stories, characters, comments, and other content you create.

You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, process, display, and back up your content as needed to operate the service. You can revoke this license by deleting the content or your account.

Web and Mac desktop purchases are processed by Paddle.com Market Limited as Merchant of Record, who collects applicable taxes worldwide.

iOS and iPad in-app purchases are processed by Apple through StoreKit, subject to Apple's terms.

Refunds and cancellations follow our Refund policy at https://kotomori.app/refund. By purchasing, you authorize the immediate digital delivery of the product and acknowledge the rules in that policy.

We aim for high uptime but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may suspend or modify features for maintenance, security, or legal reasons.

Free features are provided as-is, without warranties. Paid features come with the specific commitments listed on each product page; if there is a conflict, the product page takes precedence over these Terms.

The kotomori name, logo, designs, source code, and original content are owned by us or our licensors. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works of these without permission.

Third-party assets in our apps (KanjiVG, VOICEVOX voices, Mixamo motions, etc.) are used under their respective licenses, credited where required.

kotomori is a personal-scale studio. We provide the service "as-is" and "as available", without warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

Our apps may use third-party AI providers (when you supply your own API key). We are not responsible for the accuracy, suitability, or availability of those providers' outputs.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or JPY 10,000, whichever is greater.

We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages.

You may close your account at any time. We may terminate or restrict access for material breach of these Terms.

Sections that by their nature should survive termination (purchases already made, intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, governing law) will continue to apply.

We may update these Terms. Material changes are announced at least 14 days in advance. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the new terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. The Tokyo District Court has exclusive jurisdiction as the court of first instance for any dispute.

If you are a consumer, this clause does not deprive you of mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence.
