The Trump administration has reached a $1.22 billion settlement with German energy company RWE U.S. Offshore, buying back wind power leases covering waters off New York, California, and Louisiana. President Trump, a vocal critic of wind energy, has repeatedly stated his intention to prevent any new wind turbines from being built. The Republican administration turned to the lease buyback strategy after federal courts blocked Trump's earlier executive actions aimed at halting offshore wind development. By financially incentivizing companies to abandon their clean energy projects, the White House has found a legally defensible method to discourage wind power expansion in favor of oil, natural gas, and coal.

Interior Secretary Doug Burgum defended the RWE deal, arguing that Americans deserve an energy system built on common sense rather than costly subsidies or technologies that cannot meet current national demand. He praised RWE's decision to invest in what he called dependable baseload power. However, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island sharply criticized the buybacks, calling them a form of bribery that forces consumers to pay more by eliminating affordable clean energy and replacing it with more expensive fossil fuel plants.

Legal battles over the administration's wind energy policies are intensifying on multiple fronts. Several states that stand to lose offshore wind capacity are already suing, and California has announced its intention to file suit. Separately, a coalition of renewable energy groups challenged Pentagon officials over their failure to complete national security reviews for onshore wind farms on private land. A federal judge in Oregon ruled in the coalition's favor, ordering the Defense Department to resume its review process and submit regular progress reports.

Exhausted but mentally unbroken, Ranger follows rumors of an entity known as the Nightmare Machine, a mysterious construct whose destruction is believed to be the only way to shatter the illusion and finally break the loop he is condemned to endure.

To reach the Nightmare Machine, Ranger must battle through vast hordes of monsters that have been warped and twisted after spending an eternity in the Elder realms, the game's ancient and malevolent dimensions. The expansion pushes the legacy of the genre-defining franchise further while remaining firmly rooted in the brutal, fast-paced gameplay that made the original Quake a landmark title. Developers have emphasized that the expansion honors what they call one of gaming's most enduring icons without modernizing it beyond recognition.
